I 1870 grundlagde Joseph Meens i de skovfyldte bakker af Thull i Syd-Limburg det Alfa Bryggeri. ALFA er et af de få bryggerier i Holland, der stadig opererer helt selvstændigt og ikke er afhængige af et stort koncern. Hos bryggeriet, som stadig er i hænderne på familien Meens, står den 4. generation af familien Meens nu ved roret.
