Van 1884 tot 1924 was in dit gebouw de officiersopleiding (Hoofdcursus) van het Koninklijk Nederlands Leger ondergebracht. In 1924 werd de Hoofdcursus samengevoegd met de Koninklijke Militaire Academie in Breda. In 1973 is het gebouw door de militairen verlaten en werd het in gebruik genomen door de Theologische Universiteit. In 1854 werd in Kampen de Theologische School van de Christelijke Afgescheidene Kerk opgericht, voor de opleiding van predikanten van de Gereformeerde Kerk (PKN).
