De Maatschappij van Weldadigheid had voor mensen een aparte plaats in de kolonie van Willemsoord. Velen onder hen waren Joden. Joden die goed hun best hadden gedaan kregen een eigen hoeve, ook zij waren de vrijboeren van de Maatschappij. Het was een eigen 'pol' en vanuit die tijd stamt nog altijd de naam van de buurtschap 'De Pol'. In de omgeving van De Pol zijn een drietal veentjes: het Joden veentje (bij de camping), het Koningsveentje (Lohnislaan) en het Gijseveentje (De Pol).
