Het Rijksmuseum van Oudheden is het nationale archeologiemuseum van Nederland. Het is gevestigd in een oud herenhuis en begijnhof, een monumentaal gebouwencomplex in eigendom van de Staat , aan het Rapenburg in de Zuid-Hollandse stad Leiden.Koning Willem I stichtte het RMO in 1818 en benoemde de Leidse hoogleraar archeologie C.J.C. Reuvens als eerste directeur. Het museum beheert collecties van archeologische artefacten afkomstig uit culturen die van grote invloed zijn geweest op onze hedendaagse cultuur. Daarnaast beheert het museum ook de topstukken van de Nederlandse archeologie daterend van de prehistorie tot aan het einde van de middeleeuwen.
