De Wieringermeerpolder ligt 2.5 tot 5m beneden de zeespiegel of het NAP. De grond in deze polder werd afgezet in en aan de rond van de ondiepe Zuiderzee. Het bestaat voornamelijk uit kalkarme klei en wadafzettingen. Het resultaat is een typisch zeekleilandschap met een open, boomloze akkergrenzen. In net geploegde velden kan je soms de krekenpatroonen zien van toen dit nog een ondiepe zee en wad was. Dit landschap behoort tot een van de jongste landschappen in Europa. Het Wieringermeer werd pas in 1930 ingepolderd.
