In de buurt van Beilen - Wijster kwam de stoptrein die van Groningen naar Assen reed op 2 december,1975, tot een stilstand. Het was 10:07 in de ochtend. De trein werd gekaapt door 7 Molukse jongelingen. De kaping duurde 12 dagen en er werden drie mensen gedood. Rob de Groot kon tijdens zijn executie weglopen en ontsprong de dood.
In november 2007 is er een film gemaakt over de treinkaping van 1975. De film kreeg de naam Wijster.
