De herberg van Vermeers vader bevond zich namelijk tussen de Markt en de Voldersgracht, dus Vermeer moet met dat uitzicht vertrouwd zijn geweest. Overigens bevinden zich in Delft talloze locaties waarover dergelijke theorieën bestaan.
