Het waagstuk om de Waterwolf te temmen
Kruisdorp was in de tijd van burgemeester Pabst (1855-1863) een onbeduidend groepje huizen bij een kruispunt van poldervaarten. Dit dorpje was gebouwd in het hart van de pas drooggelegde polder. Het uitgestrekte Haarlemmermeer dat hier had gelegen beukte bij storm op de dijken. Hele dorpen waren daarbij in de golven verdwenen.
