Urk, samen met Schokland, behoort eveneens tot de streng gereformeerde en conservatieve Bible Belt.
Ook Urk was zoals Schokland tot de drooglegging een eiland, nu ligt het op de polderrand aan het IJsselmeer. Het heeft een binnen- en een buitenhaven en een vloot die zowel op de Noordzee als het IJsselmeer vist (voor tong en schol is het de eerste haven van Nederland). Zoals gezegd, de Urkers hechten aan tradities, niet alleen geloofsmatig, maar ook als het gaat om kleding: de traditionele klederdracht wordt er met graagte gedragen.
