Volgens een onderzoek van BOVAG (2014) is Groningen relatief de "sterkste" fietsprovincie als je het uitdrukt in fietskilometers per jaar per persoon. Het aantal fietskilometers per jaar per persoon was daar in 2014 1121km. De Provincie Limburg zat maar aan 759 km. Maar daar is het dan ook veel minder vlak.
