Nagele ligt bij de volgende provinciale wegen: de N352, de N716 en de N713. Het ligt ook vlak bij de A6.De naam Nagele komt van het gelijknamige eiland, dat tussen Urk en Schokland lag en in 1138 voor het eerst genoemd wordt. Reeds eerder was er ten noorden van Urk een water met de naam Nagel of de Nagele; deze naam werd tot in de twintigste eeuw gebruikt. De betekenis is vooralsnog onbekend. In de middeleeuwen verdween Nagele in de golven.
