Het ligt ten zuidwesten van Bolsward, ten noordwesten van Hieslum en ten noordoosten van Workum. De dorpskern ligt ten oosten van N359, aan beide zijden van de Workumertrekvaart.In 2021 telde het dorp 485 inwoners. Onder het dorp valt grotendeels de buurtschap Angterp. Samen met Hieslum heeft het een gezamenlijk dorpsbelangenvereniging, opgericht in 1917, en ze worden samen ook wel een tweelingdorp genoemd.
