Het ligt ten zuidoosten van Sneek en ten noordwesten van Joure. Goingarijp werkt nauw samen met het nabijgelegen Akmarijp en Terkaple. In 2021 telde het dorp 250 inwoners. Onder het dorp valt ook de buurtschap Ballingbuur.Goingarijp werd in de 13e eeuw vermeld als Godinriip, in 1327 als Goyngrip, in 1389 als Gohimriip, in 1477 als Goyngriip en in 1505 als Goynghryp.
