Het ligt ten noorden van Bolsward en ten zuiden van Franeker. Door het dorp stroomt de Lollumervaart, die overgaat in de Lathumervaart.Lollum vormt samen met Waaxens een tweelingdorp. Ze hebben ook een gezamenlijke dorpsbelangenvereniging. In 2021 telde het dorp 325 inwoners. Onder het dorp valt ook de buurtschap Barsum.
