Natuurpark de Vrije Geer is een voorbeeld van een veenweide die op de meeste andere plaatsen in Osdorp in de vijftiger jaren van de vorige eeuw werden opgespoten met zand van de Sloterplas. Dit was nodig om de woningbouw te realiseren in Osdorp.
