De kerk behoort tot de Top 100 der Nederlandse UNESCO-monumenten.
De Grote of Sint-Bavokerk is de grootste kerk in Haarlem, gelegen aan de Grote Markt. Hij is gewijd aan Sint-Bavo. De middeleeuwse kruiskerk (bouwperiode: 1370-1520) die midden in het oude centrum van de stad staat is opgetrokken in de gotische bouwstijl.
Midden op het kerkgebouw staat een ruim 75 meter hoge houten, met lood bedekte, laat-gotische vieringtoren.
De kerk werd oorspronkelijk gebouwd als een katholieke kerk. In 1559 werd de kerk de kathedraal van het nieuw opgerichte bisdom Haarlem, totdat de kerk na de Reformatie (Hervorming) een protestants bedehuis werd.
