De Sint-Jan staat op de hoek van de Parade en de Torenstraat, waaraan zich de hoofdingang bevindt, en imponeert door zijn omvang en rijkdom aan beeldhouwwerk. Oorspronkelijk als parochiekerk gebouwd, werd de Sint-Jan in 1366 tot kapittelkerk en in 1559 tot kathedraal van het nieuwe Bisdom 's-Hertogenbosch verheven. Op 22 juni 1929 werd de Sint-Jan de eretitel basiliek verleend. Het gebouw heeft de vorm van een kruiskerk, meer specifiek een kruisbasiliek.
