Almere ) is een stad en gemeente in de Nederlandse provincie Flevoland, in de polder Zuidelijk Flevoland. De gemeente telt 218.096 inwoners en heeft een totale oppervlakte van 248,77 km², waarvan 129,19 km² land en 119,58 km² water .Almere grenst aan de landzijde aan de gemeenten Lelystad en Zeewolde. Aan zijn waterkant ligt Almere aan het Gooimeer, IJmeer en Markermeer. De stad ligt, op de dijken na, geheel onder zeeniveau , en ongeveer evenveel onder het niveau van de genoemde meren.
