Door de komst van rijke Amsterdammers vanaf het eind van de 19e eeuw verrezen rond de oude dorpskernen van Laren en Blaricum vele landhuizen. Deze grote huizen kregen veel groen in de grote tuinen. De architect Rueter (Niet voor opname: Spreek uit als Ruuter) bouwde in 1901 zijn eigen woonhuis met atelier aan de Noolseweg 25. Hij gaf zijn woning de veldnaam Langenakker.
