Het "Kerkdorp" omvat de Lourdeskerk en de omliggende herenhuizen in de Berkenbosch Blokstraat, de Neptunusstraat en de 2e Messstraat. Het dorp is gebouwd naar een ontwerp van architect A.J. Kropholler, de kerk tussen 1912 en 1925 (hoewel door onenigheid tijdens de bouw de toren van de kerk pas werd voltooid in 1965) en de herenhuizen tussen 1917 en 1925.
Kropholler bouwde traditionalistisch in "Delftse School" stijl, vernoemd naar de groep architecten rond de Delftse hoogleraar M.J. Granpré Molière. Kropholler was echter nooit lid van deze groep. Hij was autodidact en heeft niet bij Granpré Molière gestudeerd, maar vormde voor de groep wel een belangrijke inspiratiebron.
De kerk is tegenwoordig in gebruik als evenementenlocatie, de kapel met Lourdesgrot (een kopie in schaal 1:13 van de grot bij het Franse Lourdes) is nog wel een gebedscentrum.
