Voor veel automobilisten, rijdend over de A12, is het een bekende verschijning, Als een baken ligt deze 'berg' langs de route Utrecht – Arnhem. Om dat deze heuvel nooit bebost werd is hij altijd zeer goed zichtbaar gebleven. De heuvel is opgebouwd uit rivierzand dat hier werd afgezet, maar door de laatste ijstijd werd opgestuwd en hier als een heuvel achterbleef.
Er heeft ooit een kasteel gestaan, maar toen in 1609 een nieuwe lijst van ridderhofsteden werd opgemaakt kwam de naam van het kasteel al niet meer voor. Uit onderzoek is gebleken dat er op de Emminkhuizerberg al eeuwen lang akkerbouw heeft plaatsgevonden.
