Als het in Nederland over fietsbergen gaat dan wordt eigenlijk meteen de Cauberg genoemd. En terecht, want deze wereldberoemde berg was reeds in menig wielerwedstrijd scherprechter. WK’s, Amstel Gold Races of de Tour De France werden op deze heuvel beslist. In tegenstelling tot wat gedacht wordt is de Cauberg echter niet de zwaarste beklimming in Zuid-Limburg.
De Cauberg heeft uiteindelijk een lengte van net geen kilometer en een gemiddeld stijgingspercentage van 6.5%. Het hoogteverschil van 51 meter zorgt echter zeker voor verzuurde benen. De Cauberg is gelegen aan de voet van het gezellige fietsstadje Valkenburg met zijn terrasjes en attracties. Hij spreekt daarom zeker het meest tot de verbeelding. Hoe dan ook, de Cauberg is de must voor iedere wielrenner in Zuid-Limburg. Ontdek het zelf!
