Deze waterbank is een reconstructie van een waterbank uit de 17de eeuw die op deze plek, bij hofstede Overdam, stond. Veel buitenplaatsen hadden een waterbank, als rustplaats om uit te kijken over de rivier of gasten die over het water aankwamen op te wachten. Er is nog maar één historische waterbank aan de Vecht bewaard gebleven, bij Beek en Hoff in Loenen. Vanaf de waterbank kijkt men uit op het eiland waar Fort Hinderdam op ligt. Hier was sinds 1629 een schans aangelegd als onderdeel van de Hollandse waterlinie. Deze werd in 1673 vervangen door een fort. In 1913 werd dit toegevoegd aan de Stelling van Amsterdam, die op de Werelderfgoedlijst van Unesco staat. Dit fort wordt nu beheerd door Natuurmonumenten.
