Het landgoed De Oude Buisse Heide werd in 1945 aan Natuurmonumenten geschonken door beeldend kunstenaar Rik Roland Holst en zijn echtgenote, dichteres Henriëtte Roland Holst. Er staan hier bij elkaar drie panden die onlosmakelijk met elkaar verbonden zijn: De Buisse Hoeve, de Angorahoeve, -het zomer verblijf van het echtpaar en ontworpen door de kunstenaar zelf- en het Atelier van Rik Roland Holst, een ontwerp van Margaret Staal-Kropholler.De ruim 200 jaar oude Buisse Hoeve, met de Herenkamer als centrale ruimte, werd door het echtpaar gebruikt om hun vele gasten te ontvangen zoals o.a. architect H.P. Berlage, schilder Charley Toorop en dichter Herman Gorter.Van 1900 tot het overlijden van Henriëtte in 1952 brachten zij vele zomers door op het landgoed.
