De huidige kerk kwam vanaf de 14de eeuw tot stand op de plaats van een 12de-eeuwse tufstenen kerk, waarvan de fundamenten deels zijn teruggevonden. Tijdens de inval van de Dordtenaren in 1420 werd de kerk door brand verwoest. Sinds 1593 is het een Hervormde kerk. De Geertruidskerk staat bekend om haar prachtige akoestiek waardoor er regelmatig concerten te beluisteren zijn.
