Monumentaal is de Sultan Ahmet moskee, één van de grootste van Europa. Met haar lange witte minaretten en roodkoperen dak steekt ze hoog boven de wijk uit. Volgens voorzitter Ahmet Altikulac schuilt de ware schoonheid van het gebouw in de sociale functie die het heeft in de wijk. “Het is daarom in meerdere opzichten een ‘modern monument’.”
