NEMO is een groot groenkoperen gebouw in de vorm van een schip. Het gebouw is gebouwd op de zuidelijke ingang van de IJ-tunnel. De draagconstructie van het gebouw bestaat uit een staalskelet. Het dak heeft een getrapt terras, vanwaar je uitzicht over Amsterdam hebt. Het hoogste punt van dit terras is 32 meter. De groene overhellende gevel is in koper uitgevoerd.
NEMO is het grootste science center van Nederland; een educatieve attractie waar je op speelse wijze kennismaakt met een wereld vol wetenschap en technologie.
Het gebouw is ontworpen door Renzo Piano, beter gekend als de architect van het Centre Pompidou in Parijs.
