Een heuvel in een moerassig gebied was in de middeleeuwen een veilige plek voor bewoning. Hier betreft het de vestiging van een klein klooster rond het jaar 1000. Lang heeft dat klooster niet bestaan, maar het is door de eeuwen heen wel steeds een toevluchtsoord geweest voor wassend water.
Sinds 1637 is Heiligenberg een buitenplaats die daarna vele malen van eigenaar wisselde.
Van het oorspronkelijke 17e- eeuwse huis is niets meer over. Het werd in het begin de van 19e eeuw gesloopt. Het huis zoals het er nu uitziet dateert van 1815. Er is nu een onderwijsinstituut in gevestigd.
Huis en park zijn niet toegankelijk.
