Description

Het Bentwoud is de nieuwe naam voor een natuur- en recreatiegebied in de Nederlandse provincie Zuid-Holland, in het Groene Hart van de Randstad. Het wordt omringd door Alphen aan de Rijn met buurtschap Benthuizen, Boskoop, Hazerswoude, Waddinxveen, Moerkapelle en Zoetermeer. Oorspronkelijk was gepland om een gebied van 1300 ha om te vormen naar bos met veel ruimte voor recreatie. Het plan dat 20 jaar in ontwikkeling is werd door ernstige bezuingingen getroffen. Anno 2012 was pas 750 hectare aangekocht en nog maar 250 hectare met bomen ingeplant. In 2016 bestond het uit ruim 800 hectares. Het gebied wordt beheerd door Staatsbosbeheer.
