De spoorbrug aan de Kanaalweg ( gem.Hulst) is een restant van de spoorlijn (54) Mechelen-Terneuzen. En was onderdeel van de in 1871 geopende Belgische spoorlijn Societe Du Chemin De Fer International de Malines à Terneuzen. Pas in 1948 kwam de spoorlijn in handen van de NS. Aan goederen passeerden hier o.a.: stro, graan, bieten, erwten, stalmest, vlas, fruit, walnoten maar ook marmer uit Italië, wol uit Australië, dennenbomen,ijzererts, koeien en varkens. Begin jaren '50 eindigde het reizigersvervoer van Terneuzen naar Hulst en België, in 1968 passeerde hier de laatste goederentrein. In het spoorhuis ( reeds verbouwd) woonde de baanwachter die zorgde voor de veiligheid en het doorgeven aan station Kijkuit dat de trein in aankomst was.
