Sint Jacobiparochie ontstond in 1505, toen Het Bildt door arbeiders uit onder meer Zuid-Holland, Zeeland en Friesland werd ingedijkt. Vooral bekend als startpunt van de pelgrimsroute het Jabikspaad en als een van de pleisterplaatsen van het Ziltepad.
