Over veerkracht en dadendrang gesproken! Op nieuwjaarsdag 2015 vechten de inwoners niet tegen het water, maar tegen een felle brand. De kerk uit 1900 wordt die dag grotendeels verwoest. Deze kerk had sinds 1997 tot 2019 de status van rijksmonument. De toren en het interieur gaan verloren, met uitzondering van de Statenbijbel, de doopvont en de haan. Alleen het onderste deel van de toren en de kerkmuren staan nog overeind. De oorzaak van de brand is nooit achterhaald. Na een lokale inzamelingsactie is de kerk in 2016 op dezelfde locatie herbouwd.
