Haarlem is dé stripstad van Nederland. Eens in de twee jaar nemen de Stripdagen de stad over. De grondlegger van het festival is Joost Swarte, die al jaren in Haarlem woont en werkt. Nadat hij stopte met zijn studie industrieel ontwerpen maakte hij snel naam als underground striptekenaar. Een van zijn stripfiguren, Jopo de Pojo, is vastgelegd op de eerste officiële stripmuur van Nederland, die collega-tekenaar Thé Tjong-Khing rond de bovengrondse ingang van een parkeergarage schilderde. Loop er een rondje omheen en er ontvouwt zich een verhaal waarin een dertigtal stripfiguren ten strijde trekt om de stad Haarlem te beschermen.
