Description

Veenendaal is niet erg oud en ontstond halverwege de 16e eeuw vanwege de winning van turf in het Veengebied in de Gelderse Vallei. De eerste bebouwing vond logischerwijze plaats op twee hoger (en dus droger) gelegen delen genaamd het Grote- en het Kleine Veenloo. De Oude Kerk is gebouwd op het Kleine Veenloo, daar waar de turfstekers zich hadden gevestigd. De kerk werd als Katholieke kerk ingewijd in 1566, hetzelfde jaar waarin de beeldenstorm plaatsvond. De kerk kwam die periode ongeschonden door.
