De Tirpitz was een Duits slagschip dat van 1941 tot 1944 dienst heeft gedaan. Het was genoemd naar admiraal Alfred von Tirpitz en was het zusterschip van de zes weken oudere Bismarck.
De Tirpitz was het grootste Duitse slagschip uit de Tweede Wereldoorlog. Het werd op 1 april 1939 te water gelaten bij de Kriegsmarinewerft Wilhelmshaven te Wilhelmshaven. Het zusterschip Bismarck werd al tijdens zijn eerste operationele missie tot zinken gebracht. Daardoor was het niet meer mogelijk beide schepen gezamenlijk te laten opereren.
