Jarablus ligt aan de grens tussen Turkije en Syrië tegenover de Turkse stad Karkemish aan de linkeroever van de Eufraat, niet ver van de in 1999 voltooide Tishrindam, een stuwdam. Van de grensovergang tussen Karkemish en Jarablus leidt weg nummer 216 in zuidelijke richting naar Manbij. De stad wordt in het plaatselijke Arabische dialect ook Dzjrāblos genoemd.
In de stad, die volgens cijfers uit 2010 ca. 25.000 inwoners had, maar waarvan het inwonertal door de huidige vluchtelingencrisis en oorlogssituatie thans moeilijk te schatten is, wonen Arabieren en Turkmenen.
