De Nose is een van de originele technische klimroutes op El Capitan. Ooit als onmogelijk te beklimmen beschouwd, is El Capitan nu de standaard voor big-wall-klimmen. Het wordt erkend in de historische klimtekst Fifty Classic Climbs of North America en wordt over de hele wereld als een klassieker beschouwd.
"El Cap" heeft twee hoofdgezichten, de Zuidwest- en de Zuidostkant. Tussen de twee gezichten steekt een enorme knik uit. Hoewel er tegenwoordig talloze gevestigde routes op beide gezichten zijn, is de meest populaire en historisch beroemde route The Nose, die de enorme knik volgt.
