Fillmore, de VW-microbus die George Carlin in de film Cars insprak, was officieus geïnspireerd door Route 66-kunstenaar Bob Waldmire. Waldmire weigerde zijn naam te lenen voor de film. Hij is een strikte vegetariër en stoorde zich aan het feit dat "Cars"-speelgoed met zijn naam erop in de Happy Meals van McDonald's zou zitten. Waldmire leefde een hippieleven, reed heen en weer over Route 66 in zijn eigen VW-microbus (compleet met een zonnepaneel voor extra stroom) en verkocht zijn gedetailleerde kunstwerken. Waldmire stierf op 16 december 2009 aan kanker. Zijn microbus staat momenteel tentoongesteld in de Illinois Route 66 Hall of Fame and Museum in Pontiac.
