Beth Abraham Hospital is gerelateerd aan de film "Awakenings", een Amerikaanse drama uit 1990, gebaseerd op de gelijknamige memoires en waargebeurd verhaal van Oliver Sacks. Het vertelt het verhaal van Malcolm Sayer, die in 1969 de gunstige effecten van het medicijn L-Dopa ontdekte. Hij diende het toe aan katatonische patiënten die de epidemie van encefalitis lethargica van 1917-1928 overleefden. Leonard Lowe en de rest van de patiënten werden na decennia wakker en moeten in een nieuwe tijd met een nieuw leven omgaan. In Awakenings schittert Robert De Niro en Robin Williams.
