Gebaseerd op de naam Stonehenge werd voor een gebeurtenis die 4 keer op een jaar plaats vindt in New York, de naam Manhattanhenge bedacht. Net zoals bij Stonehenge is ook in Manhattan de gebeurtenis gebaseerd op de speciale stand van de zon, vier keer per jaar. Meer bepaald gaat op 28 mei en op 13 juli de zon dan onder in het verlengde van de streets, de straten die parallel WO lopen. En op 5 december en 8 januari, bij de zonsopkomst zie je dan weer de zon opkomen in die straten, maar dan in het oosten. Het verschil met Stonehenge is wel dat Manhattan daar niet speciaal voor gemaakt is, maar dat het toeval is. Het levert wel mooie plaatjes op en de Manhattanhenge trekt dan ook jaarlijks veel toeristen die er foto's en filmpjes van maken.
