Deze buste werd opgericht ter nagedachtenis aan de Majorero-dichter Domingo Juan Manrique (1869-1934) op initiatief van de journalist Leoncio Rodríguez González.
Het werd gemaakt door de beeldhouwer Miguel Márquez Peñate en ingehuldigd op de Plaza del Adelantado op 27 januari 1952.
Domingo Juan Manrique was een Canarische schrijver, geboren in San Cristóbal de La Laguna in 1869 en stierf in Madrid in 1934.
Domingo Juan Manrique was kalligrafieleraar aan het Instituut van de Canarische Eilanden. Hij was lelijk en sentimenteel en nam deel aan alle poëziewedstrijden op de eilanden. Het gedicht El Mencey de Abona is een van zijn meest opmerkelijke werken.
