The Antwerpse Heirweg is a cobblestone road, located on the sand ridge Maldegem - Stekene, which belongs to the immovable heritage of the municipality of Assenede. It is a preserved part of the road that connected Bruges with Antwerp. Presumably, this road dates from the Middle Ages, but this is unclear. However, the road certainly dates from before 1770.
