The war memorial "The dead revive/ the living are awake" was designed by the architect Paul De Meyer and the sculptor René Boschmans. They were the laureates of a competition among architects and sculptors, organized by the municipality of Deurne in 1945. The duo Renaat Braem and Mark Macken won the second prize. Intended as the final piece of the field of honour for the fallen from the First World War, the monument was unveiled on 1 July 1947 at the municipal cemetery of Sint-Fredegandus. The monument is dedicated to the Deceased Political Prisoners of the Municipality of Deurne.
