The Vechte spring is located on the edge of Darfeld, more precisely in the district of Oberdarfeld. It originates from a small spring basin with several bubbling groundwater sources as well as surface seepage areas. From the small bridge at the spring basin, one can see the water bubbling if one looks closely.
In recent years, ecological conditions at the Vechte spring have been improved through renaturation measures. It was also designated as a nature reserve in 2003.
The popular cycling and hiking trail begins at the spring in Oberdarfeld, which leads for 225 kilometers along the Vechte into the Netherlands. Here, the Vechte flows into the Zwarte Water after a course of 182 kilometers at Zwolle and then into the IJsselmeer.
