The area is located in a transition zone from dry to wet, namely between the dry heathlands in the east and the wetter stream valleys in the west. These transitions were traditionally used as arable land and the wetter parts were pastures. On the dry and barren ground was forest or heath (Brouwhuissche heide). This landscape pattern can still be read today, brouwhuis says. The urban expansion has mainly taken place on the former arable land. The original morphology is accentuated within the district. This is very visible, for example, in height differences at the Sportpark Brouwhuis and in the Middenloop. There are still remnants of forest in the district. The low-lying grounds have remained open, such as the district park near the Rietven. The original road pattern can still be seen, around the old core Brouwhuis in a mosaic structure, in the northern part in straight mining lines. In the current context, they have kept an important function as a connection with the environment. The most important old mining structures in the area are: the Weijerloop, and the former Vlierdensedijk and Verlengde Middendijk.
