De kapel werd in 1846 gebouwd als processiekapel voor de processie met het Heilig Sacrament die in de 19de eeuw langs deze weg verliep.

Als gevolg van een belofte, gedaan tijdens de ziekte van zijn dochter, laat Albert van Caloen de kapel in 1895 herstellen en van een nieuw dak voorzien. In de zijgevel verwijst een arduinen plaat met chronogram naar deze gebeurtenis: "DEUS GENITORIBUS SERVAVIT ANNAM VAN CALOEN QUAPROPTER CAPELLA FUIT PIE RESTAURATA".
