The church of Rysum is buried at the top of a hill. Did you know that this church has the oldest playable church organ in north-western Europe, which is still in almost original condition? The church partly dates back to the 14th century. In the 15th century, a new parish hall was built, for which the tuff from the old nave was partially used. The church's bell tower was renovated in 1585 and lost its spire in 1686. The church contains a pulpit from 1801. The church organ dates from 1457. According to the chronicle of Eggerik Beninga, the organ was paid for by the farmers of Rysum with their best cows. It was probably converted into a playable organ in 1513.
