This motorcycle route was based on a historical route taken in the late 19th century. In August 1888, Mrs. Bertha Benz drove with her two sons in one of the first cars made by her husband Karl Benz from Mannheim to her hometown Pforzheim. The first trip didn't go so well. Along the way, she cleaned a carburetor with her hat pin. And when the ignition cable short-circuited, she insulated it with her garter. Regular stops at shoemakers had to be made to repair the leather of the brake linings.
It took a whole day to cover the 90 km. Mrs. Bertha Benz also made the return trip.

This route is certainly not the exact version of Mrs. Bertha's historical journey. But this route is more about the beautiful roads than the fast roads, allowing you to fully enjoy the scenery between Mannheim and Pforzheim.
