This walking route takes you through the border area around Vaals, where the Netherlands, Germany, and Belgium meet. Through walking junctions, you will discover a region with a rich smuggling history. At a time when borders were strictly guarded and price differences were significant, smuggling thrived here. Especially between Vaals, Aachen, and Kelmis, goods frequently came and went. Trade was so lively that Aachen was known as the 'Loch im Westen'. During this walk, you will experience how this border area evolved into a unique piece of South Limburg with its own story.
