Green walking path around Ghent

In the years 2023-2025, important improvements will be made to this hiking trail.

WHAT? The Green Hiking Path is a 100 km long hiking route that connects the four green poles of Ghent. It meanders through all the park forests, nature reserves, castle grounds, landscape parks, etc., around Ghent and offers many new experiences for hikers and cyclists along hundreds of slow paths, hunting trails, alleys, and footbridges, field and church paths, etc. This hiking route runs for a small part over unpaved paths and takes you to forgotten corners and places you only know from the car.

HOW? The Green Hiking Path is accessible from many locations by public transport from the center of Ghent. This makes it very suitable for short hikes: You can reach your starting point by tram or bus, and at the endpoint, you take the tram or bus back home. At each route destination (POI) on the map, you will find the buses, trams, and trains that will take you there.

There, you will also find a subdivision of the hiking path into easily walkable sections of about 5 km. Information on public transport is available at http://gent.delijn.be.

ADAPTATIONS AND SUGGESTIONS The Green Hiking Path was designed based on the available paths and areas at the end of 2014. When new paths become available, it will be adjusted. You can already send suggestions for improvements to wanderlust@outlook.be.

HIKING LOOPS AND BICYCLE ROUTES Various short hiking trails have also been developed that start and end at the Green Hiking Path. Additionally, a bicycle version of the Green Hiking Path is in progress.
